Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) provides you with an instruction manual of how your mind works and introduces you to your unconscious mind.  By learning the difference between what makes a person competent at a task and what makes a person excel at that task, gives us a set of guiding principles, attitudes, knowledge, skills and techniques.

It is these that will support easy changes and give you a map of how to really achieve success in your life.  It will empower you with the art of true communication, learning more about yourself as a human being, opening the door to happiness and fulfilment. Basically put, NLP is a method of personal development, a tool for improving your own performance, allowing you to achieve your true potential.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as "a mode of inter-personal communication, chiefly concerned with the relationship between successful patterns of behaviour and the subjective experiences (esp. the patterns of thought) underlying them" and "a system of alternative therapy based on this which seeks to educate people in self awareness and effective communication and to change their patterns of mental and emotional behaviour."  A complex name and description to describe something far more straightforward.

Everything that we do is the result of patterning.  We create a model for the way that we do things.  Take for example, how you make a cup of tea.  You will follow a well rehearsed sequence of events to end up with the finished product, a cup of tea.  You will have been doing it the same way for years.  Someone may complain that your cup of tea may not be up to standard, in which case you have to make some changes to improve it.  You would need to review and change your sequence of events to end up with a different result.
This same principal can be expanded and applied to the problems that people have been suffering with for years.  NLP demonstrates that by thinking about our abilities as learned skills, we open the door to understanding them more easily.

NLP explores the relationship between how we think (neuro), how we communicate both verbally and non verbally (linguistic) and our patterns of behaviour and emotion (programmes).  It helps us to use the language of our minds to consistently achieve specific and desired outcomes. It is an approach to therapy using techniques and skills drawn from many psychological, hypnotic and communication theories.

Devised in the early 1970's by John Grinder and Richard Bandler, they modelled (how they achieved results) 3 experts in their fields.  Milton Erickson, one of the most successful clinical psychiatrists and hypnotherapists of our time, Fritz Perls the creator of Gestalt therapy and Virginia Satir, a family therapist.  As a result, a collection of methods and insights were put together that could be applied to all areas of life.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming can be used as a stand alone therapy, but in practice, is often combined with other therapies, such as Hypnotherapy.
It can offer you the key to finding the solutions to your problems.
